Celtic Short Sword with Scabbard, 3rd - 2nd Century B.C.
Swords with anthropomorphic hilt are rare archaeological finds. This leads one to assume that such swords may have been ceremonial weapons exclusively reserved to warriors of higher rank. The limited size of these daggers and swords (approx. 50 to 70 cm) further corroborates this theory. However, they were still functional and could possibly have served as secondary weapons to longer swords. The handle's profile remained quite schematic at first, but its human-like form became more graphic in the course of the 2nd century B.C., featuring a head-shaped pommel.
The sword is equipped with a guard made of copper, a brass and bone grip and a steel blade.
Please note that this sword is not a battle ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's or decoration/display piece and is not suited for combat reenactment. Besides its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, e.g. to complete your costume.
Details:
- Blade material: EN45 spring steel blade (high carbon steel, not stainless)
- Handle material: copper, brass and bone
- Overall length: approx. 63 cm
- Blade length: approx. 46 cm
- Weight: approx. 1.1 kg
- Including leather scabbard
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain the blade on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
